As the bush has it sometimes, this morning was one of those drives full of gems. From the southern pride close to the lodge, a young male leopard , hyaena and rhino interaction and a rare sighting of a black morph Jacobin cuckoo.

The interesting standoff of this white rhino bull and 2 hyaena were the very first mammals we saw after departing for drive. The rhino stood his advantageous ground while the hyaena took a very big loop around the unimpressed bull.

The only decent image i could manage of this black form of a Jacobin Cuckoo! As far as I can recall this is the very first time I have seen one in the lowveld. A fantastic find especially when you have keen birders on board.
