One of the young bulls approaches the vehicle in curiosity
Having the fortune of working along the sabie river, sightings like this come about fairly frequently. Possibly the highest density of black rhino’s in the greater kruger area is along the sabie river. These 2 young bulls show themselves quite often and over the last 2 years they have become amazingly relaxed with the presence of vehicles.
The typical riverine thickets of the sabie hold a wide variety of suitable vegetation for black rhino’s. However the generally thick habitat in which they occur makes it difficult to track or spot them. Luckily for us these 2 youngsters love hanging around close to the river itslef increasing our chance of finding them from the road.
